In a significant move, Bangladesh cricket stalwart Shakib Al Hasan revealed on Monday that he has made the decision to prioritize national duty over participating in franchise-based T20 tournaments. This includes not entering the player draft for the Indian Premier League (IPL) and withdrawing his name from the Pakistan Super League (PSL) draft.

National Duty Takes Precedence

During a private program in the USA, Shakib expressed his commitment to dedicate more time to the national team, stating, *”I will sacrifice the franchise tournament that I used to play.”* Known for his impactful performances in T20 leagues globally, Shakib’s decision underscores his eagerness to contribute significantly to Bangladesh cricket.

“I am playing in three formats, and I hope that I can continue that, but no one knows about the future and what is in store. Till now, I have the desire to play cricket for a long time,” Shakib affirmed, highlighting his multi-format commitment to the national side.

Injury Setback and Comeback Plans

Currently nursing an injured finger that ruled him out of the recent Test series against New Zealand, Shakib expressed his disappointment at missing the white-ball tour of New Zealand. Despite initial hopes of joining the ODI and T20 series, consultations with a doctor revealed a need for an additional two weeks of rehabilitation, delaying his return to competitive cricket.

The seasoned all-rounder now targets a comeback through the upcoming Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), scheduled to commence on January 19. Shakib, set to feature for the Rangpur Riders, is determined to attain full fitness and contribute to his team from the start of the tournament.

“After doing the rehabilitation and gaining fitness, I don’t see any other way before BPL, and there is an election, so I will be busy. I will return to competitive cricket through BPL and can play from the start of BPL by getting full fitness,” Shakib explained, outlining his strategic approach to regain match fitness.

Sacrificing Franchise T20 Opportunities

Shakib’s decision to forgo opportunities in high-profile T20 leagues signals a shift in priorities, placing national commitments at the forefront. The move aligns with his dedication to representing Bangladesh across all formats and contributing to the team’s success on the international stage.

Shakib’s planned comeback through the Bangladesh Premier League highlights his eagerness to make an impact on the domestic front. The BPL will serve as a platform for him to showcase his skills, regain full match fitness, and contribute to the success of the Rangpur Riders.

As Shakib Al Hasan embarks on this phase of his cricketing journey, fans eagerly anticipate witnessing his return to competitive action and his continued influence on Bangladesh cricket.
