England pacer David Payne, who played a crucial role in Perth Scorchers’ BBL title win last season, has been called in as the replacement for star spinner Rashid Khan in the Adelaide Strikers’ squad for the upcoming Big Bash League (BBL) 2023-24 season. Rashid Khan had to withdraw due to a minor back injury, requiring surgery.

David Payne, expressing his excitement, stated, “New Year’s Eve in particular is a game with an awesome reputation, and I know that is going to be a really special night to be a part of. I have heard nothing but great things about the Strikers and am excited to get amongst the group and hopefully building a successful season as a team.”

Strikers’ head coach Jason Gillespie referred to Payne as a “proven performer” at the highest level, saying, “We are thrilled to have David join our squad for the upcoming BBL season. He is a proven performer at the highest level and will bring a wealth of experience to our team. His wicket-taking ability, skills in the field, and positivity around the group will all be invaluable to our outfit.”

Rashid Khan’s absence poses a challenge for the Strikers, but the addition of David Payne brings experience and potency to their bowling lineup, setting the stage for an exciting BBL season.
