The 2023 World Cup tournament has seen a lot of records broken, so no doubt this edition of the World Cup has proven to be the best for a number of players and even some of the teams like those of Afghanistan and the Netherlands. While India’s legendary batsman Virat Kohli reckoned on his exceptional batting abilities and smashed his 50th ODI century, registering a phenomenal record, India’s captain Rohit Sharma became the first player in history to smash more than 500 runs in back-to-back World Cup editions.

Rohit Sharma achieved the spectacular feat of scoring more than 500 runs in the match against the Netherlands, India’s 9th match of the 2023 World Cup, at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore. He became the only player and captain to score 500+ runs in back-to-back World Cup editions in the history of cricket.

In the match against the Netherlands, Rohit Sharma played a knock of 61 runs and completed his count of 500 runs in the 2023 World Cup. As of now, the Indian captain has smashed a total of 550 runs after playing the semi-finals against New Zealand yesterday at the Wankhede Stadium.

David Warner equals Hitman’s record

David Warner, aged 37, becomes only the second batsman after Rohit Sharma to score more than 500 runs in two back-to-back World Cup editions of 2019 and 2023. The Aussie opener’s bat was silent in the first few matches, but he picked up his pace soon and went on to score one of the highest scores of this World Cup edition, thus making his total tally more than 500 runs.

The Men in Yellow are currently taking on the Proteas at the iconic Eden Gardens Stadium in Kolkata. South Africa, after winning the toss, opted to bat first, posting a target of 213 for the Aussies.
