The retention list for all the IPL franchises was announced yesterday at 5 p.m IST with a list of all the released players as well. The IPL 2024 auction is all set to be held on December 19 in Dubai, the first time when an IPL auction is being held outside India. It has been found that a number of players have been released and retained by the respective franchises but to the notice of IPL fans, the biggest breakthrough came with all-rounder Hardik Pandya‘s all-cash trade to Mumbai Indians from Gujarat Titans.

Trading Green for Pandya

After the announcement of the retention list, it was found that Gujarat Titans still retained Pandya and this was unexpected as before the announcement, speculations suggested that Pandya was set to move back to his home team i.e Mumbai Indians. Meanwhile, on the other hand, Australian all-rounder Cameron Green was also retained by Mumbai Indians in its list of retained players.

Cameron Green’s trade to Mumbai Indians has been one of the costliest trades in MI history which took place for INR 17.5 crores. With Mumbai Indians wanting Hardik Pandya back on their track, it decided to trade Green to Royal Challengers Bangalore in order to free up their purse and get the needful amount to trade Hardik from the Gujarat Titans. After the announcement of the retention list, the all-cash deal was finally signed between the two mega franchises with GT trading Pandya to MI.

The two teams MI approached before RCB

However, several reports suggested that before trading Cameron Green to RCB in an all-cash trade, Mumbai Indians approached two franchises before, which were Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders but unfortunately the deal couldn’t prove advantageous to these franchises. Finally, as the third franchise to be approached, RCB agreed to pick up Cameron Green and signed the much-needed deal for Mumbai Indians which helped the latter franchise to get in Hardik Pandya.
